2008 STUDENT PHOTO CONTEST WINNERS

FIRST PRIZE: Alma Carver, a senior Anthropology major, took this photo in Kalleda village, Andhra Pradesh (India). She was on Washington University's Village India Program, teaching a photography class for students in a rural school. Alma says, "I was curious to discover where my clothes were being ironed, so I set out to find out who was doing the work. I came across a small roadside stand, only large enough for one person. Inside was an old man with an iron heated by opening the top and dropping in embers from a fire. It was nice to meet the person who was providing such a nice service to me and my schoolmates."  This image received the highest rating from all 4 judges.
